A Prayer of Return

A Prayer of Return

morning prayer slips,
my heart feels the error.
noon comes, yet again,
i falter, i fail.

forgive me, Lord,
my weakness is heavy,
but my soul leans
only toward You.

help me not stumble,
help me be steady.
teach these hands to fold,
this tongue to call Your name.

i promise to rise,
to pray with diligence.
please, hold me close,
never let me go.

love me as You always do,
and i will return,
again and again,
until i am whole in You.

Morning Lesson

Morning Lesson

now i realize
that was a punishment,
a whisper wrapped in silence,
for i did not face You at dawn.

and so,
the hours betrayed me,
my feet rushed,
my time slipped,
my meeting greeted me late.

maybe it is what it is—
a gentle strike of truth,
a reminder carved in minutes,
that i must return,
before the sun wakes.

forgive me if i am wrong,
but fear holds my chest tight:
that it may happen again,
that i may stumble once more
in neglect of the morning call.

so i beg,
don’t let me fall behind,
don’t let the clock mock me again.

i promise—
with both hands folded,
with my heart awake—
i will rise,
i will pray,
i will meet You at dawn,
diligently,
faithfully,
forevermore.
