In Shadows of the Wise

In Shadows of the Wise

I should understand it first, not fast,
That wisdom blooms from lessons past.
All of them rise above my head,
Their thoughts like stars my mind has read.

Those two are towers in the sky,
Much more advanced, I can't deny.
Though one is draped in dark critique,
His mind is sharp, his logic sleek.

He speaks in tones I wish to flee,
Yet still, he's more insightful than me.
I don’t enjoy his bitter air,
But still, he holds my future there.

May Lord above, both just and kind,
Protect my soul, preserve my mind.
Guard me from words that cut too deep,
From thoughts that rob the peace I keep.

Let me take their clever ways,
Absorb their light through honest days.
Let me rise by learning well,
Even when their silence swells.

Let their greatness guide my path,
Not stir in me the fire of wrath.
May envy never fill my chest,
Let hunger only drive my quest.

Though shadows loom and pressure swells,
My strength lies where persistence dwells.
May I be humble, strong, and wise,
And lift my gaze toward brighter skies.

Block me from the poison tongue,
From pride too loud, and spite too young.
Let me choose a gentler road,
Where growth and grace are still bestowed.

I do not wish to match their pride,
Just learn, reflect, and grow inside.
So, Lord, please light my inward flame,
Let learning be my only aim.

And when I stumble, weak or low,
Remind me why I chose to grow.
I’ll rise again, no need to flee—
Their wisdom will not swallow me.
