Eventually, he became the assistant of Conchita "Tita Conching" Sunico, who was the administrator of the theater at that time.[1] She taught him about public relations and within a couple of years, he started Backroom, Inc., a public relations firm.[3] He was working as a public relations consultant for the GMA Network when Bobby Barreiro, a network executive, suggested to him to try hosting a television show. Abunda became a host of Show and Tell, a late night variety talk show with Gretchen Barretto, and Startalk, an entertainment talk show. In 1999, he moved to GMA Network's competitor ABS-CBN where he hosted The Buzz, Private Conversations, Home Boy and Kontrobersyal.[3] Currently, he hosts The Bottomline with Boy Abunda, a talk show interview [5] and SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon. He attended Ateneo de Manila University[3] taking up Business Management but failed to finish it because of his father's death. He later attended Philippine Women's University and graduated with degrees of Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts in 2009[6] and Master of Arts in Communication Arts in 2011[7]. Abunda also produced an album titled Melodic Conversations.[8] On October 3, 2011, former SNN Host Boy Abunda finally joins Bandila as a newscaster for entertainment. Personal life Abunda is openly gay and has been in a relationship with partner Bong Quintana for more than 25 years.[9] He is a supporter of gay rights[10] and gay marriage.[11] On June 23, 2010, he became a part-time professor at Philippine Women's University teaching Radio and Television to Communication Arts students. He is currently residing in Quezon City.
